What Is Dramaturgy?

What is dramaturgy? What does a dramaturg do?
Lets find out.

dramaturgs contextualize the world of a play; establish connections among the text, actors, and audience; offer opportunities for playwrights; generate projects and programs; and create conversations about plays in their communities.

dramaturgy is research and development. it is arts in education. it is advocacy. it is assisting the director and/or creative team in making choices.

the mission was to create a North American network to affirm the role of dramaturg, to expand the possibilities of the field to other media and institutions, and to cultivate, develop and promote the function of dramaturgy and literary management.
